Adding reverb to a vocal track is a sure way to give it some of its own space, even apart from the reverb you might apply with the send effects. You can even get some extreme sound design effects with reverb, such as this reverse reverb algorithm on the R7000 Advanced Reverb. This may not be the most appropriate use of reverb for this particular track, but you can easily hear how the reverb imparts its own space and EQ to the vocal, setting it apart from the instruments.

So shortly after I posted about looking for my dream guitar, a Gibson 1981 Flying V in original classic white , I found this 1982 Flying V from a seller online that happened to be here in Los Angeles. I almost passed it by since it wasn’t an ’81, but the guitar was in such good condition that I had to play it. I contacted the seller, had him bring over the guitar for a test drive, and ended up buying it on the spot. While I may still be interested in an ’81 V if it’s in great condition and the price is right, this ’82 Flying V is totally doing it for me. I decided to really make it mine and make a few alterations.

A compressor acts as an automatic volume control, progressively decreasing the output level as the incoming signal gets louder, and vice versa. It preserves the note's attack rather than silencing it as with an Envelope Volume pedal. This adjustment of the volume for the attack and tail of a note evens out the overall volume of an instrument. Compressors can also change the behaviour of other effects, especially distortion. when applied toward the guitar, it can provide a uniformed sustained note; when applied to instruments with a normally short attack, such as drums or harpsichord, compression can drastically change the resulting sound. Another kind of compressor is the optical compressor which uses a light source (LED or lamp) to compress the signal.
